Our first journey took us up Knox Mountain, just out of downtown and on the edge of Lake Okanagan. We began following a small bike trail that looked like it would wind itself up the side of the mountain. We were taken with the different types of flowers and grasses we found. We began to realize that our path was quickly ending leaving us half way up the mountain. We could turn around, or continue on to see what was at the top of the ridge. I was wearing crocks and the kids were in rubber boots. As we headed straight up the the mountain we realized it was getting muddier and muddier. The rubbers were doing OK - by my crocks werent much help - I probably would have been better in bare feet! Talia was the leader and picked the easiest way possible to get up. Benji was quite hesitant, not sure how to put his weight into getting UP instead of sliding back down. I was behind Benji pushing as I kept my balance and my step. We were 3/4 of the way up and Benji had had enough. "I can't do it" I heard. There wasn't much choice now but to continue. I wasn't sure what more I could do as I was slipping and also wasn't sure this was the best family decision we had made. So - we resorted to praying "God" I said "I can't hold Benji up much longer, so I need you to push me while I push Benji". And right on Q He did his job and pushed us up the rest of the way. "Keeping going Benji, don't stop, God's gonna get us up this mountain".
At the top we celebrated! First because we did it, second because we didn't do it alone and third because of the spectacular view that was waiting for us. Benji still recalls our 'going up Knox Mountain trip' and has been excited to share the trek with Auntie and Isaiah.
Note to self - get better shoes!! See March 21, 08 post.
